In 2008 we imported our first Dexter cattle from the UK. Having already bred Dexter's in Southern England, before we emigrated to France in 2004, we felt there could be a market for them in France
A breed with many merits - we felt an animal that was hardy and able to live outside all year round, light on our heavy clay soils, hungry for mixed vegetation and complementing the grazing of our 220 ewes, the Dexter would work well for us here.
The traditional heavy Charolais animals of our region and knowing from experience having 55 cows, need a lot more pampering! Along side this - early maturity, dual purpose traits, good mothering skills, longevity and wonderful meat quality - gives the Dexter an excellent chance here, in the Allier Department (03) of France.
